Lake Mburo National Park, located in Kiruhura, Western Uganda is the perfect place to find variety of savanna dwellers. The diverse faunal species to expect to see at this park include giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, Uganda Kobs, topis, and myriad of birds. At Lake Mburo NP, you will have the best of a guided game drive and launch cruise.

Bwindi National Park in Kabale includes a thrilling mountain gorilla trekking experience. Bwindi protects a total of 120 mammal species which include the rare mountain gorillas sharing the same habitat with chimpanzees, yellow-backed duikers, side-striped jackals, rodents, buffaloes, forest elephants and 350 species of birds.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Road trip from Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park, afternoon boat cruise

After breakfast, you will have road transfer from Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park in Kiruhura district. This will be 3-4 hours’ drive and your road trip comes with a stopover at the Equator crossing at Kayabwe for photography or perform a water experiment.

From Kayabwe, proceed to Lake Mburo National Park, a spectacular protected with over 68 mammal species. This lush savanna park holds diversity of mammals including buffaloes, hyenas, jackals, zebras, giraffes, antelopes like impalas, topis, sitatungas, and birds, etc.

Arrive early at the park, enjoy lunch and after some relaxation, proceed with the afternoon launch/boat cruise. Enjoy the exciting boat cruise experience on Lake Mburo, 2-3 hours of exploring the diverse aquatic species such as crocodiles, hippos, and water birds.

Day 2: Lake Mburo game drive & road transfer to Bwindi

A delicious breakfast be enjoyed in the morning and after, set off from your lodge for a memorable guided game drive. In a 4×4 safari vehicle with a pop-up, enjoy clear sight of diverse savanna species in this spectacular park including buffaloes, waterbucks, reedbucks, giraffes, zebras, impalas, elands, and different bird species.

After the game drive, you will be transferred to Bwindi National Park in Southwestern Uganda, 4-5 hours’ drive. The park was officially gazetted in 1991 and protects 459 mountain gorillas with 20 habituated gorilla families; 350 bird species and diverse plant species.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking with a guide in Bwindi & Batwa experience

Leave your lodge after breakfast and after, you will be transferred to Buhoma sector to get briefed about gorilla trekking guidelines. A total of 20 habituated families of gorillas live in Bwindi and on a single day, one group is visited by a maximum of 8 guests. Trekking with Bwindi gorillas takes between 2 and 6 hours which covers an hour of observing how mountain gorillas behave and taking pictures.

Begin trekking back and you will get a gorilla trekking certificate then proceed to the lodge for relaxation. In the evening, you will embark on a guided Batwa cultural experience in the nearby local community.

Day 4: Departure

At leisure, enjoy a tasty cup of tea/coffee and after, begin your journey back to Kampala capital. On your way back, get a chance once again to make a stopover at the Equator and your road trip will include an en-route lunch.
